America is about ideas and principles. The Declaration of Independence articulates self-evident truths that form the basis of the American experiment. David Blankenhorn of the Institute on American Values put it this way, "We are the only country in the history of the world defining itself and organizing its affairs principally on the basis of an abstract and universally invitational philosophy."
